■Course outline
Adoption of AI and digitalization in society is progressing rapidly. With the explosive spread of data acquisition and communication devices such as sensors, high-performance cameras, motion capture, and mobile IOT, expectations for the utilization and potential of data in almost all areas of society, such as corporate management, medical and health care practices, and sports management, have increased to a hitherto unseen level. In such a digital society, "data thinking" will be newly added to the conventional "reading, writing, and arithmetic (the three Rs)," known to be essential for daily living. "Data thinking" refers to the ability to think, make decisions, and express oneself using data. It is not only about acquiring basic knowledge of mathematics, statistics, and computer processing to properly understand the data around us but also about utilizing data to link it to social value and simultaneously using data for thinking critically, grasping social phenomena, and enhancing decision-making.
This course has the four following learning goals:
・Understand international developments surrounding data, such as the Personal Information Protection Act and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
・Understand the morals and ethics necessary in using data and AI.
・Understand threats (risks) in a data-driven society.
・Understand the necessary precautions to protect personal data.
