Mathematical Thinking V: Problem Solving Approach for Upper Primary Level (Grades 4-6)

The online course " Problem Solving Approach for Lower Primary Level (Grades 1-3)" is part of the SEAMEO School Network Program and is composed by 4 lessons. These 4 videos were produced by CRICED-University of Tsukuba with the direction of professor Masami Isoda and the collaboration of invited guests. The videos are open for all the participants with English subtitles. The past three courses (Part I to Part III) focused on terminologies for establishment of appropriate teaching sequence which explain why we teach them at the primary level. The new course, Part V, focuses on Problem Solving Approach by using the guidebook for teachers’ professional development of Upper Primary Level (Grades4 to 6) children. It continues from Part IV for Lower Primary Level (Grades 1 to 3) and extends to Part VI for Lower Secondary Level (Grade 7 to 9). Part V consists of 4 lessons as follows: Lesson 1. Open Approach & Inquiry-based Investigation to Learn New Ideas; Lesson 2. Problem Solving Approach and Task Sequencing; Lesson 3. Dialectic Approach & Analysing Misconception of Ideas; Lesson 4. How to Utilize Various Teaching Approaches.
