Techniques for composing names (screen configuration) that appeal intuitively to the reader's mind

Most of the popularly available guides on manga composition are based on film theory, and few refer to unique theories of manga. In this course, students will learn about putting together compositional layouts unique to manga, where written text and images are taken in at the same time. Students will also learn techniques for how to effectively utilize this medium, in which the disparate elements of images and text reach the reader's brain simultaneously, by studying the unique manga theory of developed by Kyoto Seika University

    2. Using ""plot sheets"" and "production blueprints." A bird's eye view of the direction

  • 1. The use of images and text. The advantages and disadvantages of manga

    2. Eye tracking

    3. Thought tracking

  • 1. Creating ne-mu from a scenario

    2. Reviewing ne-mu with Kamite (上手) / Shimiote (下手) in mind

Learning Goal

  • Be able to explain the basic theory of the components that make up manga layouts: angles, angle of view (shots), and arrangement
  • Be able to logically explain the rules needed in delivering images and text in the reader’s mind at the same time
  • Be able to compose layouts through the viewpoint of guiding the reader’s eye along images and words in the order desired
