JIGE Cross-Disciplinary Research Camp - Pioneering Ideas: From Graduate Research to Societal Change -

Tohoku University, with support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) under the "Inter-University Exchange Project," is implementing the "Blended Mobility Project (BMX) for Society 5.0 HR (Human Resources)” initiative. This project is a collaborative effort between Tohoku University, Kansai University, and Chiba University. It shares the "Japan Hub for Innovative Global Education (JIGE)"—a new platform dedicated to developing and advancing next-generation international education models—while promoting student exchanges and other initiatives.

As part of this effort, Tohoku University hosted the JIGE Cross-Disciplinary Research Camp for graduate students from Friday, December 13, to Sunday, December 15, 2024. Within the JIGE framework, Tohoku University aims to cultivate highly specialized, active global citizens who are keenly aware of social and environmental justice and who can collaborate with individuals from diverse linguistic, cultural, and value backgrounds. These individuals are expected to contribute to sustainable societal development and world peace by making effective, expertise-based proposals. In line with this vision, the camp provided a space where graduate students from the three partner universities, regardless of their academic discipline or whether they were international or domestic students, gathered to explore how their research could be applied to society.

This video captures the Special Lecture and Discussion, titled "Pioneering Ideas: From Graduate Research to Societal Change," held during the camp. The session featured distinguished guest speakers who, after completing their doctoral programs at Tohoku University, became the CEO of a university startup and a core member of a social venture in Japan respectively. The discussion explored topics such as leveraging research outcomes to create new value, career development after graduate school, and the essential competencies students should cultivate during their graduate studies. We invite you to watch and engage with these insightful presentations and conversations.

Guest Speakers:
Dr. Trishit Banerjee
Manager & Market Researcher, Futaba Area Tourism Research Association
Dr. Tamir Blum
CEO and Founder, Kisui TECH
