Challenges in Solving Global-Scale Issues through Sustainable Environmental Science Approaches

Solving increasingly complex global-scale issues related to environment, disasters, bio-resources and ecosystems has become an urgent task in tropical Asia and other parts of the world. Participants in this program join the lectures on sustainable environmental science and extract global-scale issues to be solved. Subsequently, participants inspect the sites related to the issues, and aim to find better solutions through group discussions and so on.

Content/学習内容

Participating students listen to research proposals and presentations (which also serve as topic introductions) by the students belonging to Joint Master’s Degree Program in Sustainability and Environmental Sciences, a joint degree program between the University of Tsukuba and the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), to identify issues that need to be addressed. They engage in group discussions to determine the most optimal solutions to the identified issues, aiming to present better solutions. Furthermore, they deepen their understanding by conducting field visits to partner companies which are attempting to address the issues.
