The pride of NTU! Instructor Mei-Chien Huang wins silver in women's 50 metre bi-fins at the 2025 Chengdu World Games.
National Taiwan University lecturer in the Office of Physical Education and swimming star Mei-Chian Huang claimed the silver medal in the women’s 50m bi-fins event at the 2025 Chengdu World Games on August 10, finishing with an impressive time of 21.33 seconds. The entire NTU community takes great pride in her outstanding achievement and extends heartfelt congratulations.
Huang qualified for the event with a time of 21.68 seconds at the 2024 World Championships. At the World Games, she showed even stronger form, starting from Lane 5 and staying close behind her rival throughout the race before touching the wall at 21.33 seconds to secure the silver medal.
After the race, Huang said that this was her first medal in a major international multi-sport competition, making it especially meaningful.
“This was my first time competing at the World Games. I was really looking forward to racing against gold medalist Petra Senanszky of Hungary. Although I didn’t quite catch up to her in the end, achieving a personal best meant I reached my goal,” she remarked. Huang expressed gratitude to NTU, her family, and her team for their support in helping her stand on the international stage, and said she hopes to continue bringing honor to Taiwan in the future.
Huang has demonstrated a natural talent for swimming since childhood. She joined the school swim team in the fifth grade, and by her first year of high school, she had already set a national record in the women’s 50m butterfly with a time of 27.65 seconds. She went on to break the record again at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games and represented Taiwan at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. In the 2024–25 academic year, she was appointed as a lecturer in NTU’s Office of Physical Education, where she also serves as coach of the university’s swimming team. Meanwhile, she continues to excel internationally, winning gold medals at the 2023 Asian Finswimming Championships and the 2024 World Finswimming Championships.
