The following is a digest of lectures offered in English and Japanese at National Taiwan University.
These lectures focus on themes related to Taiwan, so students can learn more about Taiwan in more detail there. Furthermore, since many international students from around the world attend these lectures, they also provide an opportunity to learn about the differences in culture and society between different countries.
Another key point is that students can expect to improve their English skills as well as their Chinese!
In the latter half of each video, we interview an international student who is actually attending the lecture, so please take a look at that as well.

Exploring Taiwan: Film and Social Culture in Taiwan
Summary
The theme of this lecture is “Taiwanese Cinema and Taiwanese Social Culture,” in which students will learn how the opening of an English-language radio station in 1957 marked the beginning of Taiwan’s international cultural exchange and how music and film culture have changed over time in relation to the historical background. By learning about Taiwan’s social culture through music and movies, you will feel more familiar with Taiwan. -
Exploring Taiwan: Women And Taiwanese Society
Summary
The theme of this lecture is “The Relationship between Women and Taiwanese Society. Two scholars who brought feminist theory to Taiwan will be introduced and you will learn about their activities. The content is interesting and relevant to contemporary gender issues. Since students from all over the world participate in this lecture, you will be exposed to diverse ways of thinking, which will help you broaden your own perspectives. -
Seminar On Taiwanese American Literature
Summary
The topic of this lecture is “American Literature in Taiwan”. Students will learn how literature has developed in Taiwan, where science is more important than humanities. Within the lecture, the influence of historical background and cultural factors will be examined through discussions and assignments based on literary works dealing with such themes. This lecture is suitable for students to learn about the historical, social, and cultural background in Taiwan. -
Introduction to Agriculture in Taiwan
Summary
The theme of this lecture is “Agriculture in Taiwan”. By learning about the characteristics of Taiwan’s universities, which are famous for their agricultural research, students can learn a wide range of information about the current state of agriculture in Taiwan, its policies, and the challenges faced by each sector. The lectures are taught in detail, so even if you have no prior knowledge of Taiwanese agriculture, you can acquire basic knowledge and diverse perspectives. The lectures are flexible and progress according to the situation, and students’ active participation is welcomed, allowing them to develop their own initiative. -
Introduction to Japanese Drama and Multimedia (1)
Summary
In this lecture, students will take the initiative in discussing the realization of the “Japanese Theater Performance” project as its theme. In the process, students will deepen their understanding of Japanese culture and learn about the Japanese language. By working together as a team to create a work, students can also improve their international cooperative skills. While the content is familiar because it is a theme related to Japan, this is an enjoyable lecture with new discoveries from an international perspective.
