Introduction to rebel-tool.org: A card game to evaluate experience-based learning

Every day, we have many experiences. But how do we make sense of these and our lives more generally? How do we track our knowledge acquisition beyond the classroom? We are increasingly encouraged to pursue lifelong learning (the ongoing pursuit of knowledge) and lifewide learning (valuing our knowledge acquisition outside of formal education and work), but how do we do this? Welcome to REBEL, which stands for Recognising Experience-Based Education and Learning. This is a toolkit composed of 108 cards designed to support us in evaluating our learning as individuals and groups. Until recently, REBEL was only available in hard copy. With the launch of rebel-tool.org, this open-source tool is available to anyone with access to the internet. This short introduction takes users through the website, guiding them to engage with a preselected pack focused on intercultural cooperation. The video shares an example of how REBEL can deepen reflection and recognition of experience-based learning with the aim of encouraging learners across disciplines to play and experiment with this tool. Marsha Bradfield rides the hyphen as an archivist-artist-curator-educator-researcher-writer-and, and, and. . . . Her practice explores the subject of interdependence. Recent projects examine incidentality, authorship, value systems, organisational structures, experience-based learning and the economies/ecologies of collaborative cultural production. Whether a drawing, a publication or a startup, Marsha avoids a signature style, at least one easily identified by its formal qualities. Marsha has co-convened Incidental Unit (the third iteration of Artist Placement Group) since 2016 and worked in other constellations, including Critical Practice, Pangaea Sculptors’ Centre, Precarious Workers Brigade, RadBots, and REBEL (Recognising Experience-Based Education and Learning). Marsha is the course leader of MA Intercultural Practices (Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London). marshabradfield@artfieldprojects.com
