Introduction to Business Japanese Ⅱ(on-demand course)

This course is aimed at those who are just starting to learn business Japanese, and deals with introductory content aimed at acquiring basic linguistic knowledge and understanding business culture and manners. Business Japanese ability is required for international students to get a job at a Japanese company. However, the current situation is that there are few opportunities to come into contact with business Japanese in university life or daily life. The purpose of this course is to acquire basic knowledge of business Japanese and to prepare for working in Japanese in the future.
*The topics covered are different from those in the introductory course held in May. Participants of the previous course can continue to take this course.

◆Classroom Format and Assignments
(1) Video streaming and quiz taking via On Demand (about 60 minutes of study time x 8 times)
(2) Take the final examination
(3) Submit a final report on the assigned theme (1,000 words)

◆Conditions for Certificate Issuance:Certificate of Completion will be issued by Toyo University.
Completion of all assignments (1) to (3) by the end of the course period.

"We will take up physical contact as a form of communication and review the differences between Japan and other countries.
*Respond to the BEVI to confirm your mental attitude toward different cultures."

Students will learn the basic knowledge required in production and the katakana words they need to understand.

Linguistic expressions that are easily mistaken will be discussed and confirmed from a sociolinguistic perspective.

Students will learn how to write and use basic expressions by covering emails in business situations.

We will introduce models of verbal and nonverbal behavior and consider business communication.

This course covers katakana vocabulary related to "society and management" and its proper usage.

Business situations will be reviewed by situation and the linguistic expressions used in the situations will be considered.

Students will learn about the basic knowledge and concepts needed in a sales situation.

Prof. Ushikubo graduated from Dokkyo University. He learned Japanese language education in the doctoral program at Waseda University and got a Ph.D. (Japanese Language Education). He worked as a deputy chief instructor at an overseas educational institution (Waseda Education Thailand). After returning to Japan, he kept pursuing a career in language education, working as a research assistant at Waseda University and a lecturer at the Kwansei Gakuin University. He is currently teaching Japanese at the Center for Global Education and Exchange, Toyo University. His specialty is qualitative data analysis, teacher research, and classroom research.

Graduate of the Japanese Language Program at the College of Foreign Languages of the Ocean University of China. Completed the doctoral program at the Graduate School of Humanities, Kobe University.Assistant at the University of Hamburg (Germany) and Kobe University. Part-time and full-time Lecturer at Kobe Design University and Japan University of Economics. Currently a Lecturer at Toyo University. Doctor Chen’s research covers modern Japanese grammar, Japanese language education, Japanese linguistics, as well as corpus linguistics. Takes special interest in sentence-final markers and Chinese-related lexicon in modern Japanese. Building on her theoretical knowledge of Japanese grammar and vocabulary, as well as her own learning experience, the lecturer will offer hints how to improve your Japanese skills.

After working as a lecturer at the National Tsinghua University (China), she is currently a full-time lecturer on foreign nationality at the University of International Business and Economics School of Foreign Studies.
