Student Voice_UCL Summer Internship at Tohoku University
Our university has undertaken a project called the "International Collaboration between Japanese, British, and American Universities to Create Resilient Societies" with support from MEXT's Inter-University Exchange Project. This project aims to "produce global leaders to contribute to the creation and international growth of future societies that are resilient to increasingly severe and complex natural disasters and pandemics, and in which people can lead fulfilling lives" and "develop and globalize Tohoku University's historically strong and internationally recognized university education model for realizing resilient societies in cooperation with UK/US partner universities, industry, and regional communities." In this video, we will present a message from an international student who participated in the 2023 summer field study internship conducted by the International Research Institute of Disaster Science as part of this program. The student is studying risk and disaster mitigation at University College London in England. She talks about the many things she learned about the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and restoration by participating in the field study/internship in Japan. Please watch it to hear her observations and impressions regarding the post-earthquake restoration.
