【YOKOHAMA-SXIP 2024】 Special Lecture 1:The Role of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves on Blue Carbon Ecosystems

As part of the *YOKOHAMA-SXIP Program, Yokohama National University (YNU) hosted a Special Lecture titled "The Role of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves on Blue Carbon Ecosystems" at the YNU Symposium.

Lecturer: Prof. Miguel Clüsener Godt, Ph.D.
Affiliation: Senior Research Associate at the UNESCO Chair on Biodiversity Safeguard for Sustainable Development at University of Coimbra, former Professor of YNU

Prof. Clüsener Godt worked at UNESCO for 31 years, serving as the Director of Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences, and Secretary of the Man and the Biosphere Programme.
In his lecture, he discusses UNESCO’s role in environmental protection and sustainable use, the utilization of renewable energy, the significance of blue carbon, and the role of oceans in global warming and the carbon cycle. He also introduces case studies on Yokohama’s Blue Carbon Project, as well as the status of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves and mangrove ecosystems in Australia, India, and Japan.
