Toward Becoming a “Smart” Engineer in Science and Technology: Evaluation and Analysis of Engine Components
This is an interview video featuring an alumna of Utsunomiya University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, who is now working as an evaluation engineer at NPR-RIKEN Co., Ltd. Drawing on her university research on “friction reduction in engine oil,” she is currently responsible for evaluating engine components for automobiles and motorcycles. The video showcases the realities of hands-on manufacturing, from testing actual engines to using rig-testing equipment that significantly reduces testing time, as well as fabricating custom parts using machining tools such as lathes. As the automotive industry undergoes a major transformation with the rise of electric vehicles (EVs) and hydrogen engines, she shares her aspiration to become an engineer capable of conducting accurate evaluations under entirely new conditions and with alternative fuels. This video offers valuable insights into how academic learning can be applied in the real world. It is highly recommended for anyone interested in technical roles in manufacturing.
