“Harae” Purification and Shinto

Shintoism arrived at is current form being influenced by Japan's natural environment and history. The purification ceremony is one of the most important aspects of Shintoism, and in tracing back its history, one will be able to observe Shintoism and the Japanese culture that lies underneath it. This video will decipher current purification rituals while explaining its formation and philosophy, as well as the Japanese view of cleanliness. Kokugakuin University has been conducting Shinto and classical studies since 1882 and has many relevant academic assets which will be featured in the video
