This video summarizes the initiatives undertaken by Kanazawa University to educate and engage with the local community in innovative ways, contributing to regional revitalization efforts. Through collaboration with various local organizations such as the UNESCO Biosphere Reserves Council and the Hakusan Tetorigawa Geopark Council, as well as with local NPO Hakusan Shiramine Nature School, the university actively involves both international and Japanese students in educational activities focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the community level. The video highlights the historical and spiritual significance of Mount Hakusan as a revered mountain of worship and its designation as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1980. It explores the unique industries and cultural heritage of the Shiramine region, including silk farming, the production of traditional tofu-making process, all of which have been passed down for generations. Additionally, it discusses the challenges faced by the aging population and declining birth rates in the region and emphasizes the importance of preserving local traditions and fostering sustainable development.
