Practice of Inclusive Management
The development of human resources capable of adapting to and thriving in a diversifying society has become a challenge for many companies, but specific methods for fostering such talent have yet to be established. In particular, for Japanese companies, many face the challenge of understanding and promoting Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) as a prerequisite. At APU, the Center for Inclusive Leadership (CIL) was established in 2019 as a hub for education, practice, and research in "inclusive leadership" (leaders who can transform diversity into organizational strength). This initiative has shifted from focusing on "understanding diversity and developing individual capabilities" to "developing human resources who enhance organizational power through understanding diversity and developing individual capabilities." Based on this approach, this course aims to cultivate inclusive leadership talents—individuals who can accept diversity and diverse people, and transform their differences into new value and power for the organization. This course offers practical content for cultivating inclusive leaders, covering foundational knowledge of DE&I and leadership models, vision setting, effective feedback, discovering strengths, group facilitation, utilizing various roles within a group, and project management. It deepens understanding of the knowledge necessary for inclusive management and real-world examples of its application in society.

Competency/コンピテンシー
Course Objectives
The goal of this course is to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become inclusive leaders—individuals who can contribute to an organization by harnessing the power of diversity through collaboration with diverse people. The image of the human resources to be developed is as follows:
The ability to incorporate diverse perspectives from various people, and create work styles and environments that are easy for anyone to work in and contribute to. This will lead to improved efficiency, productivity, and the generation of new ideas, ultimately strengthening the organization.
The ability to eliminate negative perceptions such as a sense of obligation and burden in accepting diverse people (especially minorities), and to foster an atmosphere that promotes collaboration. Moreover, the individual will take proactive actions to lead and inspire those around them.
The ability to understand the perspectives and differences of others, and find mutually agreeable solutions, without believing that “accepting others” means “submitting to others.” Furthermore, they will be able to face conflicts and discussions that arise in this process without fear.
By becoming such a leader, the individual will be able to respond to changes flexibly and resiliently, and continue to adapt to the fast-paced changes of today’s society.
