Joint Symposium and Workshop in Medical Sciences in Indonesia

This one-week program includes a workshop on the fundamentals and hands-on practice of CRISPR/Cas9, lectures on recent genome-editing advances, and a visit to Universitas Padjadjaran Hospital to discuss genetic and social issues in mixed student groups. A concluding symposium features research presentations from Japanese and Indonesian universities and discussions on gene-editing applications and international collaboration.

① Understanding of Gene-Editing Technologies
Students will learn the basic concepts and techniques of CRISPR/Cas9, a gene-editing technology widely used across multiple fields.

Students will understand cultural backgrounds different from Japan and collaboratively identify issues, discuss them, and propose solutions.
③ Multilingual Communication
Students will study and present using English as the common language.
④ Understanding of Global Issues
Students will understand and discuss potential future challenges arising from medical innovations such as gene therapy.

Students will gain a multifaceted understanding of the social impacts of advances in life science technologies, including economic, policy, and ethical aspects, and consider their future visions with a broad perspective.
