ホストファミリー：Hosts International Ltd.
ホームステイは“現地に住む一般家庭での普段の生活を体験する”ものです。
ホームステイを体験することで、生活習慣や文化の違いなど、現地の生活を身近に体感することができます。
ホテルに泊まっているだけではわからない、その国の素顔。例えば、部屋の間取り、日本と違う調味料や食材、広い庭、家庭の家事分担の様子、子供たちの遊び、休日の過ごし方など、一緒に暮らしてみなければわからない発見はたくさんあります。
ホストファミリーになってくれる方々は、日本の私たちの家が一つ一つ違うようにさまざまです。家族構成や習慣などはファミリーによってそれぞれ違います。それぞれのファミリーを比較するのではなく、お互いに尊重し理解しあえる心がけが大切です。
「英語が通じなかったらどうしよう」という不安がもっともありがちな悩み。初対面の人と、しかも英語でコミュニケーションをとれるかどうか不安を感じる人もいるかもしれません。しかし、心を開いて意思を伝えることが重要です。
コミュニケーションは片言の英単語と身振り手振りで十分です。 重要なことは、自分の意思をハッキリ相手に伝えようとする姿勢と、会話を楽しもうとする積極的な姿勢です。
ホストファミリーと良い関係を築くためには、その国の文化やものの考え方を理解しようとする気持ち、積極性と柔軟性、そしてホストファミリーとのコミュニケーションが大切です。
語学力不足による誤解を避け、お互いに理解し合うためにも、自分から積極的に話をし、ここから国際交流の第一歩を踏み出しましょう。
語学力が乏しいということだけで、コミュニケーションがうまくとれないことはありません。明るさ、積極性、礼儀があれば言葉の壁は必ず克服できるはずです。基本的な “Please”、“Thank you”、”Excuse me”という言葉は日常生活をお互いが気持ちよく過ごす上でとても大切な言葉です。これらの言葉を自然に言えるように常に意識しておきましょう。重要なことは、自分の意思をハッキリ相手に伝えよう、会話を楽しもうとする積極的な姿勢です！
思い切って、”Hello,,,”、“Excuse me,,,” と話しかけてみましょう！
イギリスのホームステイでは、受け入れ家庭の人種的・宗教的背景は様々です。
英語圏だからといって、白人家庭とは限りませんし、子供のいる家庭、父子・母子の家庭、子供が巣立っている老夫婦の家庭など、様々です。留学生を家族の一員として迎え入れ、お互いの文化を分かち合おうとする気持ちは皆同じです。どの家庭も事前に慎重に選定されています。また、個室は確保されますが、異性、同性を問わず他国籍の学生が同居する場合があります。
Guidelines on the rules of living with a homestay family in the UK
１．食物について嗜好、アレルギー、菜食主義など、必ず知らせてください。
２．食事の時間は通常、毎日決まっています。夕食をしない場合、または夕食に間に合って帰宅できない場合は、必ず事前に連絡してください。
３．自分で調理する場合は、必ずホストファミリーに了解を得てください。
４．歯磨粉、歯ブラシ、ソープ、シャンプー、クリームなどの洗面用具や化粧品は極めて個人的な物なので自分用のを持参してください。
５．喫煙者の場合は、ホストファミリーにどこで喫煙できるか、事前に尋ねてください。通常、屋内では喫煙しません。
６．シャワーをする時間（帯）についてはホストファミリーと相談してください。普通、朝はシャワーは混み合いますので夕方シャワーするように言われるかもしれません。
７．寝具は1週間に１度替えます。アイロンは自分でしてください。
８．事故は起きます。万一、ホストファミリーの家のものを破損した場合は、直ぐにホストファミリーと大学関係者に伝えてください。弁償しなければならない場合など相談しましょう。
９．夜間遅く帰宅する場合は必ずホストファミリーに知らせてください。
10．夜間はヒーターのスイッチを切られるかもしれません。寝室が寒い時は、ホストファミリーに余分の毛布など求めてください。
11．ホストファミリーの家の鍵は責任をもって管理してください。万一、鍵を失くしても、その鍵がどこの家の鍵かわからないように、ホストファミリーの住所と一緒に鍵を保管しないでください。
12．友人（家族）がホストファミリーのうちを訪れる時は必ず事前にホストファミリーの了解を得てください。 友人や家族は、ホストファミリー宅に原則宿泊はできません。
