【YOKOHAMA-SXIP 2024】 Special Lecture 2:Disaster Risk Reduction as a Global Agenda: Achievements and Future Challenges
As Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction and Head of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction for six years, from 2018 to the end of 2023, Ms. Mami Mizutori has been involved in the international community's efforts for disaster reduction and mitigation. Based on her experience and knowledge during that period, she spoke on ‘Disaster Risk Reduction as a Global Agenda: Achievements and Future Challenges’ and contributed to the YOKOHAMA-SXIP Seminar's discussion on how to build a society that can confront risks through cooperation between industry, government and academia. After graduating in law from Hitotsubashi University, she joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she held posts in the security and bureau areas, as well as overseas at the Japanese embassies in Mexico, Washington and London. Prior to joining the UN, Ms. Mizutori was also involved in academia as Executive Director of the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures in the UK. Since the end of October 2024, she has been appointed as an advisor to Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company Ltd.
