Agricultural Internship Abroad VI in Taiwan
The Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) approach is defined by three pillars: Sustainable improvement of agricultural productivity, strengthening resilience and adaptive capacity to climate change, and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This internship program aims to study various countermeasures devised and practiced in Taiwan by visiting production sites of agricultural products—such as tropical fruit trees and livestock—that are expected to be significantly affected by future climate change. National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) in Taichung City, a partner institution with which our university has an students exchange agreement, originated as a school of agriculture and forestry and is now one of Taiwan’s leading comprehensive universities with a prominent College of Agriculture. Over the course of two weeks, participants will visit agricultural production areas and related facilities in central and southern Taiwan, while attending lectures delivered in clear English by NCHU faculty to deepen their understanding of CSA and Taiwanese agriculture. This program also includes a visit to the World Vegetable Center (AVRDC), an international non-profit research organization located in Tainan City. In the end of the program, participants will present their learning outcomes in English and engage in discussions with faculty. In addition, through interactions with NCHU students, participants can gain opportunities to learn about Taiwanese culture, customs, and history.
