The background of the promotion of environmental education as Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) will be reviewed, and the goals, objectives, and definition of environmental education will be explained. Then, guidelines for environmental education in Japan, approaches to practices, practices based on the perspective of curriculum management, and contents of environmental education in the subject “science” will be explained.
